2012 Goroka Show Momase-Highlands Explorer Tours

This package includes the 2012 Goroka Cultural Show and the tours covering both the Momase and the Highlands regions. The explorer tour starts in Morobe Province through to Bogia in Madang Province, the Sepik River and terminates in Goroka. The package is designed to ensure one discovers some of the unique cultures and traditions of the Momase and Highlands people including entering remote places rarely set foot by outsiders.

16 nights brief itinerary overview: 03rd Sep to 19th Sept 2012 covering Bulolo/Aseki, Lae, Madang/Bogia, Sepik River, Mt Hagen and Goroka (2012 Goroka Show).

Day 1: Mon 03rd Sep 2012 - International flight/Port Moresby/Bulolo
Arrive from international flight and board flight PX710 at 15:00 for Bulolo. Arrive at 16:00. Overnight at Pine Lodge. (D)

Day 2: Tues 04th - Bulolo/Aseki
Transfer to the Aseki area to see the Kuku Kuku people and visit the mummies kept over hundreds of generations. In the afternoon drive back to Pine Lodge and overnight. (BLD)

Day 3: Wed 05th - Bulolo/Gabensis/Lae
Transfer to Lae. En route stop at Gabensis area for village and cultural discovery tours. Proceed to Lae in the afternoon and overnight at the Phills Motel. (BD)

Day 4: Thurs 06th - Lae/Madang
Half day tour of Lae and its surrounding highlights before to Madang via Okuk Highway. On arrival check into Madang Lodge and overnight. (BD)

Day 5: Fri 07th - Madang/Bogia
Transfer to Bogia District along the Northcoast Highway and begin exploring the villages, its people and their cultures and traditions. In the afternoon settle in and overnight at Anua Negu Lodge. (BLD)

Day 6: Sat 08th - Bogia/Manam Island
Transfer by boat to Manam Volcanic Island for a full day expedition. In the afternoon transfer back to the mainland and overnight at Anua Negu Lodge. (BLD)

Day 7. Sun 09th - Bogia
Today full day tours in Bogia including visiting several villages, the people and their cultures and traditions. Overnight at Anua Negu. (BLD)

Day 8: Mon 10th - Bogia/Madang/Wewak
Transfer to Madang and board flight PX126 at 16:35 for Wewak. Overnight at Wewak Surfside Lodge. (BD)

Day 9: Tues 11th - Wewak/Kanganamun
transfer to Pagwi for your canoe expedition and start your river expedition to Kanganmun and visit the oldest Haus Tambaran along the Sepik River and overnight at Kanganamun Guest House. (BLD)

Day 10: Wed 12th - Kamanabit/Chambri Lakes
Today head further into Chambri Lake. En route stop at Aibom whose people are famous for their pottery making. Back to Kamanabit. After dinner you will have the chance of going for a crocodile hunt with the locals. Overnight at Kamanabit village house. (BLD)

Day 11: Thur 13th - Kamanabit/Wewak
Today bid farewell to your friendly hosts at Kamanabit village and continue your journey to Pagwi and onto Wewak. On arrival in Wewak transfer to Wewak Surfside Lodge and overnight. (BD)

Day 12: Fri 14th – Wewak/Goroka
Depart for Goroka via Madang. If tim epermits visit Asaro Valley. Overnight at Pakuwat Wilderness Lodge. (LD)

Day 13, 14: Sat 15th, Sun 16th - Goroka Show Ground
Spend these two days enjoying the show festivity. Overnight at Red Riverside Lodge. (BLD)

Day 15: Mon 17th - Goroka/Simbu/Mt Hagen
Transfer on a scenic drive tour on the Highlands Highway to Goroka. En route meet the Emerian people in Simbu for a display of their cultures and traditions. Continue to Mt hagen and overnight at Pakuwat Wilderness Lodge. (BD)

Day 16: Tues 18th - Mt Hagen (Rugli Village)
First half of day village discovery trip visiting the Rugli for village discovery, cultural and traditional tours. After lunch Biayer Valley sightseeing tours. Overnight at Pakuwat Lodge. (BLD)

Day 17: Wed 19th - Goroka/Port Moresby
Board flight PX 961 to Port Moresby for your next destination. The flight departs Goroka at 10:45 and arrives at 11:55. END OF THE PROGRAM

Asaro Mudmen- Goroka, EHP

Tribal folklore records that centuries ago the warriors of Asaro were defeated in a tribal fight "payback"raid, and, to make themselves look fierce in the process, covered their bodies with gray mud. According to legend, the ruse worked. Their enemies fled at the sight of these ghostly apparitions. The mud men will recreated the drama for you when you attend the 2012 Goroka Show.

In Goroka Show you will also see hundreds of other tribal sing-sing groups showcasing their cultures and traditions such as this woman group from Morobe Province.
