2012 Hagen Show - Sepik & Highlands Explorer Tours

This package contains 2 full days for cultural show festivals in Mt Hagen Show and 10 cultural, wildlife and adventural days covering two outstanding destinations in PNG: the Sepik and the Highllands. In the Sepik the tourist would be visiting the remote Sepik River exploring cultures, traditions, carvings and different art forms that define the lives of the river people. In the highlands, the cultures and traditions of the people are far different to the Sepik. Notable encounters will be the Huli people in Tari and the Melpa people in Mt Hagen.

12 nights itinerary brief overview: 04th to 17th Aug 2012 covering Wewak, Sepik River, Mt Hagen (2012 Mt Hagen Show) and Tari. (Can be extended to Madang for an additional 3 nights).

Day 1: Sat 04th Aug 2012- International Flight/Wewak
Arrive in Port Moresby from your international flight and connect with domestic flight PX126 at 15:35 to Wewak. Overnight at Wewak Surfside Lodge. (D)

Day 2: Sun 05th - Wewak/Kanganamun
Transfer to Pagwi for your canoe expedition. Visit the oldest Haus Tambaran along the Sepik River and overnight at Kanganamun Guest House. (BLD)

Day 3: Mon 06th - Kanganamun/Palambe/Kamanabit
Transfer to Palambe by motorize canoe and hike inland for about 30 minutes and exploring the Palembe villages and visit the Haus Tambarans and its interesting activities. Overnight Kamanabit village guest house. (BLD)

Day 4: Tues 07th - Kamanabit/Chambri Lakes
Continue journey into Chambri Lake by motorized canoe and see potteries of all sizes, shapes, colors and patterns. Also encounter cultures and traditions of Chambri Lakers. Overnight at Kamanabit village house. (BLD)

Day 5: Wed 08th - Kamanabit/Wewak
Bid farewell to your friendly hosts at Kamanabit village and transfer to Pagwi and onwards to Wewak. Overnight at Wewak Surfside Lodge. (BLD)

Day 6: Thurs 09th - Wewak/Mt Hagen
Board flight APNG flight CG1650 to Mt Hagen. FLight departs at 12:40 and arrives at 13:20. Afternoon tour Waghi Valley. Overnight at Pakuwat Wilderness Lodge. (LD)

Day 7: Fri 10th - Mt Hagen (Pakuwat Mini-Show)/ Rugli Village
Half day attend Pakuwat mini-show, a prelude of what you would be expecting in the main Mt Hagen Show. After lunch village discovery tours to Rugli in Mul Baiyer district. Overnight at Pakuwat Wilderness Lodge. (BLD)

Day 8, 9: Sat 11th, Sun 12th - Mt Hagen Show Ground
Spend these two days enjoying the show festivity where you will be captivated by the cultural extravaganza displayed by hundreds of different tribes of PNG. Overnight at Pakuwat Lodge. (BLD). Note: On Sunday afternoon transfer to Kumul Lodge and overnight for birding and wildlife tours on Monday.

Day 10: Mon 13th - Kumul Lodge
Spend the entire day birding and wildlife tours at Kumul Lodge. For those who are not keen birders, there are many wildlife and nature activities to keep you occupied. Overnight at Kumul Lodge. (L)

Day 11: Tues 14th – Mt Hagen/Tari
Transfer by to Tari will be organized. The drive time is 6-7 hours. Overnight at Hela Guesthouse. (BLD)

Days 12: Wed 15th - Tari Basin
Today fully immerse yourself in the Huli culture and its intriguing traditions. Overnight at Hela Guesthosue. (BLD)

Day 13: Thurs 16th – Tari/Port Moresby
After breakfast transfer to the airport and board flight PX865 to Port Moresby. The flight departs at 10:30 and arrives at 12:00. END OF THE PROGRAM or for EXTENSION to Madang see below program.

EXTENDED PROGRAM

Madang (Bogia & Manam) Getaway.
In this extended program you will be spending three nights in the Madang province visiting the Bogia District. The highlight of this extended program includes visiting the Manam Volcanic Island and exploring remote cultures and traditions of this Bogia people who re renowned for their friendliness.

 3 nights itinerary from Thurs 16 to 19th Aug 2012: Tari, Madang , Bogia and Manam.

Day 13: Thur 16th - Tari/Port Moresby/Bogia
After breakfast transfer to the airport and board flight PX865 to Port Moresby. The flight departs at 10:30 and arrives at 12:00. The get your connection flight on flight PX126 to Madang at 15:30. On arrival transfer to Bogia and overnight at Anua Negu Lodge. (D) 

Day 14: Fri 17th - Bogia/Manam Island
Transfer by boat to Manam Volcanic Island for a full expedition. In the afternoon return to the mainland overnight at Anua Negu Lodge. (BLD)

Day 15: Sat 18th - Bogia
Visit several villages in Bogia for village and cultural studies. Overnight at Anua Negu. (BLD)

Day 16: Sun 19th - Bogia/Madang/Wewak
Transfer to Madang and board flight PX911 to Port Moresby for your next destination. END OF PROGRAM.

The Sili Muli women dancing group from Enga Province also partake in the annual Mt Hagen Cultural Show. They are well known for dancing semi-naked with the intent to let their breast attract young men from different tribes. Its a traditional courtship dancing in Enga Province when a woman is escorted to the grooms place by the young woman from the brides clans and tribes. Get ready with your camera for amazing photos from the Sili Muli dancers!
